Aeolian flute
The Aeoline flute is a type of flute that is designed based on the physical structure and sound of the Lakota flute, but with different musical intervals. Like the Lakota flute, these flutes can be ordered in different keys and models, single, double, and triple, and because of their specific musical intervals, they are instruments that are in tune with minor scales, including the hang drum.
Similarities between Lakota and Aeoline
This physical structure, similar to the Lakota flute, has led to similar playing techniques in both flutes and similar sound color in both instruments. For this reason, players of both instruments can easily handle playing both types of flutes. This structural similarity has also made it easy for Lakota flute makers to make Aeolian flutes. Another similarity between these two flutes is their classification into different models and tunings. The Aeolian flute, like the Lakota flute, is available in more than twelve different keys, which are classified into three ranges of high, middle, and bass sounds, and are offered in three models: single, double, and triple
Difference between Lakota and Aeolian
The Aeolian flute, as its name suggests, has Aolin musical intervals, which are in fact the same as the natural minor musical intervals, so it is different from the Lakota flute, which has minor pentatonic intervals. Of course, in Lakota flutes, which have six sound holes, it is possible to approach natural minor intervals, but this is difficult and with low accuracy. Aeolian flutes have a deep sound that is in harmony with minor scales, and therefore are very suitable and harmonious for players of instruments such as the hang drum who are looking for sounds that suit their instrument.
